There’s nothing but an empty set behind the wizard’s curtain on the set of “Wicked”, looking more like a ghost town as the SAG-AFTRA strike begins.
The Buckinghamshire village that Universal transformed into some vibrant sets for the Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo-led musical has become a dreamland for the cast and crew hard at work on the production. But as the actors’ strike went into effect Friday morning, the hundreds of cast and crew are nowhere to be found.
This film has been in the works since it was first announced in 2016; clearly, COVID was a major setback, but things were finally looking up for the blockbuster before the strike. “Wicked” is set to be released in November, but who knows if the cast and crew will be able to overcome the strike in time.
In the meanwhile, it’s anticipated that the actors’ strike would also halt filming on other projects in the UK. One of the first significant films to be impacted is Deadpool 3, which has already suspended filming. Additionally, it is anticipated that Beetlejuice 2, Speak No Evil, and Avatar 3 will soon be put on hold.
