Hugh Jackman and Deborra-lee Jackman have decided to divorce after 27 years of marriage and two children. “We have been blessed to share almost 3 decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage. Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth,” they stated in a joint statement. People magazine broke the news of their divorce first.
They stated that the statement would be the only one regarding their breakup. They went on to say that their family is their top concern and that they will approach “this next chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness.” The statement was confirmed by a representative of The Associated Press on Friday.
The pair met on the set of an Australian television show where both of them were performers in 1995. Deborra-lee Furness was the most established of the two at the time. They married in 1996 and have two children: Oscar, who is now 23, and Ava, who is now 18. Jackman also rose to prominence in Hollywood and on Broadway.
Jackman paid tribute to their 27th anniversary on Instagram in April. He wrote, “”I love you so much. Together we have created a beautiful family. And life,” he wrote. “Your laughter, your spirit, generosity, humor, cheekiness, courage and loyalty is an incredible gift to me.”
