German-born American actor Christian Oliver, known for his roles in Speed Racer and Valkyrie met with a tragic end on Thursday. The actor was killed in a plane crash along with his two young daughters. The plane crashed off of the coast of the Caribbean Island.
Christian was commuting in a single-engine aircraft with his daughters- Annik, 10 years old and Madita, aged 12. The plane was departing from Bequia, which is a small island. The plane’s final destination was St Lucia, but as the vessel took off, it started facing unspecified difficulties and crashed into the sea. The plane’s pilot and the owner Robert Sachs died in the crash as well.
According to the members of the Royal Vincent and Grenadines police force, all four bodies have been recovered. The officials along with the fishers and the nation’s coast guard swiftly arrived at the location.
The cause of the plane crash is still unknown. Shortly after the plane took off, Robert informed the tower that he was facing certain difficulties and would be returning. That was the last transmission he radioed.
The sudden loss of Christian Oliver has sent shock waves throughout the film industry. He was an exceptional actor and had a career spanning three decades. Christian recently finished shooting for his latest film Forever Hold Your Peace, which is directed by Nick Lyon. He was cast alongside Bai Ling.
The 51-year-old actor was born in Germany. He debuted in the film industry with Saved by the Bell: The New Class in 1994. He was cast opposite Cate Blanchett and George Clooney for ‘The Good German’. It was then he collaborated with Steven Soderbergh. He also shared the screen with Brian Singer and Tom Cruise on Valkyrie. His most recent was Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.
