In quiet a rare scenario, it’s still mid-April and ABC has already decided the fate of all the drama shows existing on the platform.
The popular Nathan Fillion cop series The Rookie was the last to get word yesterday with a season 7 renewal after some intense negotiations with the show’s new lead studio, Lionsgate, which acquired The Rookie producer eOne in December. The show has joined the recently renewed Grey’s Anatomy, Will Trent, and 9-1-1, while Station 19 and The Good Doctor are ending their runs.
The platform has not introduced any new scripted series, owing to the strike- impacted season, except for Fox transplant 9-1-1, ABC has two drama series on deck for next season, Drew Goddard’s High Potential and Ryan Murphy’s Dr. Odyssey. The sizes of the orders at the network for 2024-25 are rumored to consist of 18 episodes or less.
Back in February, Abbott Elementary became the first ABC scripted series, which was renewed for another season. Two months later, it remains the only comedy series, whose fate is determined, while the veterans The Conners and sophomore Not Dead Yet on the bubble.
Roseanne has been following the footsteps of The Conners, which just marked their 100th episode and has remained sturdy when it comes to ratings performance.
