Earlier this year, 90 Day Fiancé fans were shocked and worried when Michael Illesanmi, the Nigerian husband of co-star Angela Deem, went missing in the U.S. shortly after arriving. Michael disappeared from February 23rd to 26th, 2024, and Angela revealed his absence on social media just hours before he was found safe. Michael had contacted the police and was later located, but he chose not to reach out to Angela, citing fears for his safety. This news came despite their recent positive appearance on 90 Day: The Last Resort, where Angela had even agreed to discard their divorce papers. So, what led to Michael’s sudden departure?
What does Michael Illesanmi say caused his disappearance?
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Michael explained that his disappearance was due to Angela’s explosive and potentially violent behavior. He described the relationship as extremely toxic, especially following his arrival in the U.S. in December 2023.
Michael shared his disappointment, saying, “I thought things would improve when I got here, but they actually got worse.” He added, “Angela’s behavior was unacceptable. I’m a laid-back and easygoing person, and she took advantage of that. If I had acted the same way towards her, the situation would be different.”
Michael also mentioned that Angela’s controlling behavior was another form of abuse. He described how Angela monitored him closely and controlled various aspects of his life. “We haven’t had sex since I arrived. She sleeps in the bedroom while I sleep on the couch. She constantly checks my phone and keeps tabs on me,” he said.
