The Harrison Ford-led Yellowstone spin-off, 1923, is confirmed to return for a second season. However, the exact release date for Season 2 is still up in the air.
The series, which explores a new chapter in the history of the Dutton family from Kevin Costner’s popular Yellowstone, features Ford and Helen Mirren as they navigate the challenges of America in the 1920s.
Paramount+ announced the renewal for Season 2 in February 2023. Unfortunately, the show’s production faced delays due to the writers’ and actors’ strikes that affected much of Hollywood last year. As a result, fans will need to wait a bit longer for the new episodes.
When will ‘1923 Season 2’ be released?
More than 18 months after 1923 was officially renewed for a second season, fans are still eagerly waiting to find out when it will premiere.
Season 1 aired from December 2022 to late February 2023, and Paramount+ confirmed the show’s return shortly after. Since then, the latest update had fans hearing that production was gearing up, with filming expected to start later this year.
In May 2024, TVLine reported that production for Season 2 was set to begin soon, though no specific start date was given. Austin Business Journal also mentioned that filming would likely take place in Austin, Texas, and documents from the City of Austin indicate that production is scheduled from July to September.
Additionally, SkyShowtime CEO Monty Sarhan hinted in June that filming for the new season was already underway, suggesting that Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren were actively working on it.
If Season 2 follows a similar production timeline to Season 1, which began filming in August 2022 and premiered in December 2022, a release date before the end of 2024 is possible, with a likely window between October and December. However, it might be more realistic to expect the show to return in early to mid-2025 to start the new year on a high note.
In the meantime, you can catch up on Season 1, which is currently streaming on Paramount+.
