Samay Raina and Ranveer Allahbadia, two popular Indian YouTubers, have found themselves at the center of a controversy surrounding their show India’s Got Latent. The show, which features a panel of judges including Samay and Ranveer, has been criticized for its explicit content and language. However, their financial success may not be enough to salvage their reputations.
Their net worth
Samay Raina, a popular Indian comedian and YouTuber, has been making headlines recently for his show India’s Got Latent. However, his journey to fame and fortune began when he won Comicstaan Season 2, sharing the title with Akash Gupta. Around the same time, he also livestreamed chess on YouTube, collaborating with chess grandmasters and celebrities. This unique content inspired many young Indians to participate in chess. Samay’s popularity soared during the COVID-19 pandemic with his standup videos and blunt comic shorts. His YouTube comedy show India’s Got Latent, where he judges participants’ performances with a panel of guests, made him an internet sensation. However, the show has faced criticism for its uncensored language and content.
According to reports, Samay Raina’s estimated net worth is around $16.5 million (approximately Rs 140 crore), although some sources peg it at Rs 195 crore. He has over 5.9 million followers on Instagram and 7.33 million subscribers on his YouTube channel. Ranveer Allahbadia, another popular YouTuber, boasts a net worth of nearly $7 million (approximately Rs 60 crore). He earns an income of Rs 35 lakh per month from YouTube and business ventures. Both Samay and Ranveer are engineers by education, with Samay studying Printing Engineering and Ranveer studying Electronics and Communication Engineering.
Why are they in news
Samay Raina and Ranveer Allahbadia are facing severe backlash for their explicit and obscene comments on India’s Got Latent. The controversy erupted when Ranveer Allahbadia asked a contestant about the size of his private parts and even offered a hefty sum of Rs 2 crore for an inappropriate act. He further sparked outrage by posing a disturbing question about watching one’s parents have sex every day for the rest of their life or joining in once and stopping it forever.
Their comments have been deemed not only offensive but also promoting obscenity and explicit discussions. As a result, Guwahati Police have registered an FIR against Samay Raina, Ranveer Allahbadia, and other judges on the show, including Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, and Apoorva Makhija.
The Mumbai Police also visited the recording location of the show, and a complaint has been filed against the hosts and participants. Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis has condemned their actions, stating that while freedom of speech is important, it should not encroach upon others’ freedom.
Ranveer Allahbadia has since apologized for his comments, acknowledging that they were not appropriate and taking responsibility for his actions. However, the damage has already been done, and the controversy surrounding India’s Got Latent continues to unfold.
