For quite a while now, Yo Yo Honey Singh is a name that has dominated the music scene- particularly the rap segment – in India. He was one of the few who introduced the country to the world of hip-hop and rapping. Since then, several singers and performers have come up front. In a recent conversation, he spoke about his contemporaries and shared his two cents on today’s independent music scene.
While speaking to Mid-Day, Yo Yo Honey Singh said that at this point the music industry is making streaming stars, but not superstars. He went back into the times and said that in the last decade, only singers like AP Dhillon, Karan Aujla, and Guru Randhawa have made it big as superstars. He also mentioned ace Punjabi singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh and said that he wouldn’t count him among them.
Backing his statement with a reason, the Brown Rang singer said that the Amar Singh Chamkila star was “already [far ahead] in the game; he was already a legend.” Yo Yo continued, saying that he had known Diljit for several years and that they worked together, too. According to him, while the above-mentioned three artists have become superstars, “50 boys and girls have, unfortunately, only become streaming stars.”
