Among all the controversies that have been associated with Kareena Kapoor Khan, one of the most debatable was her request of equal remuneration as the male lead in her movies. Being a market star, she has been in a lot of controversies especially when she allegedly demanded Rs. 12 crores to play Sita. But do you recall when the actress said she wanted to earn as much as Akshay Kumar whom she shares screen space with in Good Newwz?
During Hindustan Times Leadership Summit 2019, the actress was asked about the pay disparity and responded cheekily, “As far as the paycheck goes, I just want to get paid as much as Akshay Kumar does. That’s all yaa!” Akshay was grilling his stare at Kareena and then replied one precondition for it. “To begin with, I’m a partner with Karan Johar in Good Newwz. I’m ready in front of everyone to make a film where she does the hero’s role, and she will be 50-50 partner with me. Is it agreed?”
Kareena justified her angle and said that she was even the ‘hero’ in Good Newwz. But Akshay Kumar said, “Now don’t go back, mai film banaunga, mai film me paisa bhi lagaunga. Aap usme hero rahengi, aap usme remuneration nahi lengi. Jab hum us picture ko release karenge, jo kamayenge, 50-50% leke jayenge.”
Akshay then went on to label Kareena ‘smart’ and spoke at length about how she would avoid signing the dotted line with him.
