Vidya Balan faced criticism after she accidentally shared a screenshot of a WhatsApp conversation on her Instagram handle. In the message, she can be seen showing her support for Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma, who opted to skip fifth Test against Australia in Sydney during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy [BGT] 2024-25.
While she was quick to delete the Instagram post, her team shared a clarification stating that she was genuinely moved by Rohit’s selfless decision, which motivated her into writing the message for him.
“There has been some speculation regarding a tweet Ms.Vidya Balan put out yesterday expressing her admiration for the grace Rohit Sharma exhibited by stepping back as a player and captain from the last test match,” read the statement.
It further mentioned, “Let it be unequivocally stated that Ms.Balan posted this completely of her own volition because she was moved by his selfless act, and NOT by request from his PR team… To attribute her actions to anything other than a spontaneous reaction to something she found admirable is completely preposterous.”
Post deleting the post on Instagram, the actress posted on X, “Rohit Sharma, what a SUPERSTAR!! To take a pause & catch your breath requires courage … More power to you … Respect !! @ImRo45”.
