Twinkle Khanna, an actress turned writer, recently reflected on the past and shared her experiences dressing in body-hugging attire. She revealed that in order to fit into the tight clothes while filming the 1999 movie Baadshah with Shah Rukh Khan, she practically starved herself and survived on channa (roasted gramme). She also revealed that she felt like a ball of gas while recording the song Mohabbat Ho Gayee.

Twinkle Khanna disclosed during an interview with Shrayana Bhattacharya on Suitable Conversations that although actresses are frequently portrayed as not dieting and overindulging in food, this is frequently not the case—many of them are starving. In her own words, she related her own experience of being on a restricted diet, especially during the period when tight catsuits were popular, though she questioned why people wore them at all. Her Gujarati heritage may have had some influence, but she made the personal decision to eat mostly chickpeas (channa) because they were inexpensive and easily accessible.

Twinkle went on to explain, “So, this was my diet, and in this song, Shah Rukh Khan had to lift me up, and I was so scared that I would explode like the gas canisters in the Parliament, but I didn’t. So if you see my teeth clenching there, other things are also clenching and just holding on, but yes, I survived that bit as well.”

She then talked about the critiques she had when the movie came out. She mentioned that she had once had a review that was completely centred on her navel, and no one objected because that was seen to be okay at the time. She thinks she even gave the writer a thank-you note for the mention.

Last month, Khanna excitedly shared the cover and description of her fourth book, Welcome to Paradise, on Instagram. She described it as an anthology of stories that explore the complexities of relationships, loss, and deceit.

The book tells heartbreaking stories about Huma’s family’s split between Cemetery and Crematorium, Madhura Desai’s audacious plea to the chief justice, Nusrat’s experience of grief, and Amita’s well-kept secrets, according to the Amazon blurb.
