Twinkle Khanna launched her latest book, ‘Welcome To Paradise’ recently. During the book launch event, her husband, Akshay Kumar, asked her a question, to which she responded in a witty style. He asked her if men were irrelevant, as the lead characters in her book were all women.
Twinkle shared a sneak peek of the segment from the event on Saturday, along with her response for anyone who might feel the same. Twinkle referred to men as dessert when Akshay asked her, “All the main characters are women. So I just want to know whether men are irrelevant.”
“No, you need dessert, right? To be happy. So men are important for us to enjoy ourselves and indulge. And I think that a lot of this that I could do is including going to study. I would not been able to do it if he didn’t hadn’t supported me the way he has,” replied Tinkle.
Twinkle temporarily relocated to London with her daughter Nitara as she enrolled in the esteemed Goldsmiths, University of London to pursue a master’s degree in fiction writing.
In the caption of her Instagram post, she wrote, “At the book launch he stumped me with this question about Welcome to Paradise and my brain had to do a few cartwheels to come up with a suitable answer. What answer would you have given if you were in my place? While reading the book did you feel that men were irrelevant?”
One commenter expressed disappointment at Twinkle referring to guys as “dessert,” although many appreciated her witty response. The comment said, “Can we call women “a dessert” and get away with it?”
“You can’t but you can blame centuries of patriarchy for your current predicament (smiley face) humour is always about punching up and not down,” replied the Mela actor.
The Taj Lands End in Mumbai hosted the book launch event. Akshay Kumar and Karan Johar attended the function. A compilation of stories focused on women, Welcome To Paradise addresses a variety of life topics, including loneliness, marriage, and love.
