The JNU controversy

Deepika stirred a lot of buzz in the media when she joined the JNU students to show them her support and condemn the attack on the JNU students. This was during the time when anti CAA protests were at the peak in JNU. The actress was in the city to promote her upcoming movie Chhapaak and visited the university. While many supported her act, there were many who called it a promotional stunt and accused her of being anti-national. A few months later, former RAW officer, NK Sood claimed that Deepika was offered Rs 5 crore from Aneel Mussarat, who is a good friend of Pakistan PM Imran Khan.

The Padmaavat controversy

The movie Padmaavat created a lot of tensions even before its release.  Inspired from the story of Queen Padmini, it received a lot of backlash from the the Karni Sena as they believed the movie portrayed their queen in an inappropriate way. The Karni Sena even threatened the actress of chopping her nose if they do not stop the releae of the film. The movie originally titled as Padmavati was released after a struggle of two months with a new name that is Padmaavat.

The Ram Leela controversy

Deepika’s movies always get wrapped up in some kind of controversy. The movie Goliyoon ki Rasleela Ram- Leela was no exception to it. The film was originally titled as Ram Leela and was disapproved by the audience due to its association with the name of Hindu lord Ram. The Jalandhar police filed an FIR against director Sanjay Bhansali and lead actors Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh. The title of the film was then changed from Ram Leela to Goliyoon ki Rasleela Ram-Leela. While clearing the air on the director Sanjay Bhansali said “it appears that some misinformation is being carried out regarding the film, but to clarify it is inspired from William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. The film is neither related to traditional Ramleela performance. Ram the main character of the film does not resemble lord Ram in any manner”.

The cleavage controversy

When a magazine posted inappropriate pictures of the actress, it created a lot of discussion on social media about moral policing. However Deepika replied in a straight yet graceful manner by tweeting “Yes I am a woman. I have breasts. I have a cleavage. You got a problem?”

 

The Dum Marro Dum controversy

Deepika performed an item number for the song Dum Marro Dum in the movie of the same title. Although many praised her for her dance moves, she faced a lot of backlash for the inappropriate lyrics of the song. This song was a remix version of the old dum Marro dum song and even the original performer of the song Zeenat Aman was unhappy with it.

The RK tattoo controversy

Deepika had the initials of her ex-boyfriend Ranbir Kapoor tattooed on the nape of her neck . But after their break up there are still speeculations whether she got it removed or does she conceal it with makeup.
