During the times when Aamir Khan and Kiran were still married, actor Aamir had expressed his wish to act alongside his now ex-wife Kiran Rao in a feature film. He even called her a “fantastic actor.”
The 56-years-old actor, during an interview in 2013 had said that he wanted his Kiran Rao to essay a role in her directorial debut Dhobi Ghat. In an interview with India Today, the actor had opened up about his idea of starring together in a film with his now ex-wife. He said, “It has occurred to me and I pushed her very hard for it. There was a role in Dhobi Ghat which I wanted her to do. It’s the role of Yasmin. Yasmin is the girl in the videotape who my character falls in love with and gets attracted to. I used to see her reading the script and read out. Yasmin’s character as she did other characters. And I thought she was just unbelievable as Yasmin,” when asked if he wanted to do a film together with Kiran in the lead.
Later, Kriti Malhotra was roped for the role yet Aamir said, “But even otherwise I have suggested to her that we should do a film together because she is a fantastic actress and I would really love to do a film with her.” Although, Kiran has once appeared in one of Aamir’s film, ‘Dil Chahta Hai.’
On July 03, 2021, Aamir Khan and Kiran announced their separation in a joint statement. They have a son Azad Rao Khan, who they have decided to co-parent. The couple was married on December 28, 2005, and they filed for a divorce after being together for 15 long years.
