Taylor Swift and Kim Kardashian have been butting heads since 2016 and it was resurfaced once again due to Taylor’s dig at Kim through a song in her latest album, “the Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology”.
The pair appeared friendly in 2015 at award shows despite Kim’s then husband, Kanye West interrupting Taylor’s award acceptance speech at the VMAs 2009.
June 2016
Kim and Taylor’s feud started when Kanye rapped that he “made that bitch famous” and “might still have sex” with Taylor in his song “Famous” in February 2016 and Kim said that Kanye had Taylor’s approval and she knew it was coming but chose to act surprised.
Kim’s followers took to Instagram with snake emojis for Taylor. Corresponding to this a spokesperson said that Taylor didn’t have anything against Kim and believed that Kim was repeating Kanye’s words.
July 2016
On “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” Kim talked about defending Kanye and refused her mother’s advise to call and apologize to Taylor. She publicly released a clip of a phone call through Snapchat between Kanye and Taylor in which Taylor called the “sex” line a compliment.
Responding to this, Taylor’s rep as well as Taylor herself clarified that she was not made aware of the song and she was falsely accused of being a liar.
November 2017
Taylor’s album “Reputation”, was believed to be a revenge against West and Kardashian. It was further confirmed by the music video of her song- “Look What You Made Me Do” in which Taylor’s 19-year-old version was shown standing confused with her award while West interrupted her speech and also Taylor using the snake emoji during promotions which was commented by Kim’s fans on her posts.
January 2019
In an interview with Andy Cohen, Kim said that she is “over” the feud, however, later in another interview she said she would rather be stuck with Drake in an elevator than Taylor.
March 2020
Taylor and Kanye’s full phone call was leaked in the media, with the latter being heard saying, “I’m going to send you the song and send you the exact wording,… right?”.
Taylor claimed that the recording was illegal and edited to which Kim responded on the same day saying “nobody ever denied the word ‘bitch’ was used without her permission.”
December 2021
On a podcast with Bari Weiss, Kim said that while she liked a lot of Taylor’s song and thought they were “cute and catchy” she couldn’t name any of her albums without looking up on her phone.
January 2023
When West & Kim’s eldest daughter, North danced to Taylor’s “shake it off” in a TikTok video, Taylor responded with a diss track in April 2024 singing “One day, your kid comes home singin’ / A song that only us two is gonna know is about you.”
December 2023
Taylor mentioned the feud in an interview saying it was “psychologically” damaging, making her distance herself from everyone and compared it to “career death”.
April 2024
Taylor’s fans took capitalization in her latest song “thanK you aIMee”, which is about a high school bully and mention of a “bronze, spray-tanned” woman who her mom “wish[es] were dead” as a clear dig towards Kim.
