The investigation of Sushant Singh Rajput‘s untimely and shocking death has revealed a lot of things going on in the nation. Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) was in charge of the investigation of the actor’s death and has told the Bombay High Court on Friday, i.e. 23rd October, that it did not leak any information regarding the probe. This came after the Bombay HC said that the media has become “polarised” and kept receiving PILs about “media trials” regarding the case.

Representing the Central Bureau of Investigation, Additional Solicitor General Anil Singh, told that neither did the Enforcement Directorate (ED) nor the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) leaked any information as these two agencies were also in charge of the probe. He also said that the agencies have also filed affidavits in the court stating that they did not leak any information of the probe. The allegations came after a group of petitioners who said that the media should be kept in check and should be restrained from covering the probe of the actor’s demise, raised questions over how the media is able to cover sensitive information about the case. The petitioners also included a few police officers, as they alleged the agencies of providing such information.

The High Court was also told by the Union Government of National Broadcasting Standards Authority that the electronic media has a self-regulatory system and the states should not intervene in any of the content they cover. This was backed up by the news channels who are also involved in the case. However, the judged of Bombay HC said that “The media was neutral then (in the past). It is now highly polarised….This is not a question of regulation, this is a question of checks and balances. People forget where to draw lines. Do it within lines. You want to criticize the government, do it. The issue is someone has died and the allegation is you are interfering.”

The hearing is said to be continued in the upcoming week.
