Suniel Shetty recently recalled a terrifying experience he faced in the United States shortly after the attacks of 9/11. While shooting for the film, Kaante in Los Angeles, the actor was held at gunpoint and handcuffed by police officers due to his appearance.
During a conversation with Chanda Kochhar’s YouTube channel recounted how the situation unfolded. “We had just reached LA when 9/11 happened. I was watching the news, and at first, I couldn’t even believe what I was seeing.” The heightened security in the US following the attacks led to intense scrutiny, particularly towards individuals with beards and certain ethnic features.
Suniel revealed that he was staying at a hotel when the incident occurred. He recalls that he asked an American gentleman for the room keys, since he had forgotten his in the room and his staff was not available. The fellow got uncomfortable and moved away from him. Moments later, gunmen stormed in and shouted, ‘Down or we shoot!’
The actor admits being confused getting on knees as they handcuffed him. Fortunately, members of the production team rushed to his aid. One of the hotel managers also intervened and informed the police officers that he is an actor.
