As Kaanchi: The Unbreakable completes 7 years of its release, director Subhash Ghai talks about working with newcomers and more. In an exclusive interview with ETimes, he also opens up about the risk that comes along with a film. He says that despite Kaanchi’s failure at the box office, he is happy to see how the lead actor Kartik Aaryan is flourishing!

The movie marked his comeback to direction after Yuvraaj. It was the story of Kaanchi that called out to him. “Both Mishti and Kartik Aaryan were recommended to me by my Assistant Director and cameraman. I found them apt for the roles and brought them on board,” he adds.

Even during the filming, he had a feeling that it was not panning out the way he wanted it. And he feels that it could have done better had it been released today as female-oriented films are getting more acceptance now.

Talking about Kartik Aaryan, Subhash Ghai remembers him as a quick learner. He also reveals that his fondest memory of the movie was the court case that was going on during the filming.

“I had to attend meetings with my lawyers and come to the shooting as well. Everything was going on simultaneously. It was a highly stressful time for me. Although I was able to save the institution, I lost out on the film at the box office,” he remarks.
