After veteran actor Soumitra Chatterjee‘s haemoglobin level fluctuated on Sunday, he was given a blood transfusion, his doctors said in a statement.
Around 25 days ago, the actor was admitted to a hospital after testing positive for COVID-19. Due to co-morbidities such as pneumonia and old age, the actor’s condition has been critical the entire time. The doctor said, “We are fire fighting with complications happening.”
As per a PTI report, the doctor said “His bleeding part is not contained or controlled fully. His haemoglobin is fluctuating. We had to transfuse four units of blood. We had to do a CT to find out his exact internal bleeding location. We are trying to seal the bleeding spot which is yet to be fully successful.”
Further explaining Chatterjee’s critical condition, the doctor said, “We are correcting a lot of things. We are optimising organ functions. His neurological issues have not been treated fully to the point of his recovery. This is actually the main problem of Chatterjee’s general non-improvement of consciousness status.”
However, the doctors believe that his organ functions are holding on. His lungs are functioning well and the infection is under control too. They are also considering giving him another round of dialysis, the third one since Wednesday.
The iconic actor, famous for his role of Apu in Satyajit Ray‘s Apu trilogy had tested positive for COVID-19 earlier. He tested negative later, but his condition remains critical due to comorbidities. The veteran actor is on ventilator support since last week.
