Bollywood Actor Sonu Sood is to be honoured by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) with the SDG special humanitarian award and has joined the club of celebs who have been affiliated with awards by the UN bodies. This club already has members such as Angelina Jolie, David Beckham, Leonardo DiCaprio, Emma Watson, Priyanka Chopra and many more.

Sonu Sood is being affiliated with such a prestigious reward for selflessly helping and sending lakhs of migrants to their hometown, helping stranded students abroad, providing free education and medical facilities to young children and for creating employment opportunities in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

On receiving this award, the actor said, “This is a rare honour. UN recognition is very special. I have done whatever little I have done, in my own humble way, for my fellow countrymen without any expectations. However, to be recognised and awarded feels good. I fully support the UNDP in its endeavours to achieve the SDGs by 2030. Planet Earth and mankind will greatly benefit from the implementation of these goals.”

Sonu Sood was making a selfless effort when the nationwide lockdown was implemented, and all forms of transportation were stopped from operating, causing migrant workers, students and corporate workers to be stuck wherever they were and unable to return to their hometown. He arranged for thousands of buses for the migrant workers to reach their hometown safely and was highly praised by the migrants as well as various citizens of India.
