Sonu Sood, airlifts 177 girls from Ernakulam, Says ‘I will do my best till last migrant worker reaches home’

After arranging transport systems for around 750 migrants who were taken back to their homes in Karnataka and in Uttar Pradesh through his Ghar Bhejo initiative along with his friend Neeti Goel, Sonu Sood has now airlifted 177 girls from Ernakulam (Kerala) to Bhubaneswar (Odisha).

A source close to the actor informed TOI that they became aware that the girls were stuck in Ernakulam due to the nationwide lockdown. They were working as stitching and embroidery workers at a local factory and had nowhere to go when the factory closed due to Coronavirus pandemic.

The source has been quoted as saying, “These girls come from Odisha’s Kendrapada. They were all stranded with no proper arrangements. These girls were 2000 km away from their homes and were unable to leave Ernakulam after the factory got shut due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Someone came to know about Sonu’s Ghar Bhejo initiative and contacted him.”

The source has further been quoted in the same report as saying, “Since it was difficult to send these girls via road, Sonu and his team airlifted them from Cochin airport. Both the Cochin and Bhubaneswar airport operated for a few hours. A special aircraft had been called from Bangalore to airlift the girls from Kochi. The flight departed today at 8 am. These girls landed a while ago. Buses were also arranged and it dropped them to their villages in Kendrapada,”.

After the confirmation of the news, Sonu said, “I have been getting requests from all across the country. I am trying my level best to get them reunited with their families. I will continue to do my best till the last migrant reach home.”

Sonu and his team are working hard to make migrants reach their homes safely. “After he launched the toll-free number, Sonu has been getting around 50-60 thousand calls from across the country. The entire team is spending sleepless nights and have been on their toes,” the source told TOI.

Meanwhile, Sonu is sending many migrants to Uttarakhand, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar today. The migrants are leaving by buses from Mumbai.
