Actress Sonam Kapoor Ahuja broke her silence over the pay disparity in the industry. Amid the ongoing pandemic she has been filming for her upcoming project ‘Blind.’ The actress had shot for the movie in Scotland in January 2021 during the second wave of Covid-19. In a recent chat with Mid-Day, the actress opened up about her views on the prevalent pay gap in Bollywood and her upcoming film.
In a conversation with Mid-Day on the importance of her profession and how the women are represented in the movies has improved yet equal pay will take time. Sonam told Mid-Day that the pay disparity in Bollywood is ‘ridiculous’ and said, ” the pay gap is ridiculous. I can stand up to it, but then I don’t get those roles, and I’m okay with that. I can afford to do that. I realised over the past two or three years that I have no right to judge anybody. I’m privileged, so making difficult choices isn’t really f**king difficult.”
She also talked about her forthcoming film, ‘Blind.’ She revealed that the film used to be shot from early morning to late in the night. She said, “It was intense. We were starting at 3 pm and shooting until 4 am. You’d wake up and have one hour of daylight.”
In the film, Sonam will essay the role of a blind cop who has been handed the case of a serial killer. She talked about the challenges of doing the role of the differently-abled cop and shared that the preparations used to happen over Zoom calls and she worked on fight scenes and walking with a blindfold to get into the skin of the role.
The film ‘Blind’ is being produced by Sujoy Ghosh, Avishek Ghosh, Manisha W, Pinkesh Nahar, Sachin Nahar and Hyunwoo Thomas Kim. It is helmed by Shome Makhija.
