According to his son Kaustubh Savarkar, renowned Marathi and Hindi actor Jayant Savarkar passed away on Monday morning (July 24) in a hospital in Thane from age-related ailments. He was 87.

“He was admitted to a hospital due to low blood pressure about 10-15 days ago in Thane. Suddenly, his health deteriorated last night. He was put on ventilator and he passed away around 11 am due to age-related issues,” Kaustubh told PTI.

Savarkar’s six-decade-long career in Marathi and Hindi films, theatre, and television included roles in films like “Yugpurush,” “Vaastav,” and “Singham,” as well as “Hari Om Vithala,” “Gadbad Gondhal,” “66 Sadashiv,” and “Bakaal.”

As a backstage performer, Savarkar began his career in Marathi theatre and was given the chance to appear on stage in the stage production of “Manus Navache Bet” by renowned playwright Vijay Tendulkar.

He leaves behind a son, two daughters, and wife. Tuesday morning will see the final rituals.
