Not many would know that Armaan Kohli was the reason for Shah Rukh Khan becoming a star. For SRK fans, this trivia would surely come as a shock. But it really happened and the events led to the circumstances which led Armaan Kohli to leave the film which went to Shah Rukh and the rest is history.
We are talking about Shah Rukh’s debut film, Deewana in 1992 which starred Divya Bharti and Rishi Kapoor. Earlier Armaan Kohli was the choice for Deewana for Shah Rukh’s character. But due to some personal reasons, he had to leave the film. The makers then took Shah Rukh as Armaan’s replacement.
Armaan had even shot for the first schedule and posters of Deewana were out featuring Armaan and Divya. But as destiny wanted, in the last moment, Shah Rukh stepped in. Shah Rukh has even described the incident on several chat shows and credited Armaan for his success. In Yaaron Ki Baarat, a talk show hosted by Sajid Khan and Ritesh Deshmukh he said, “Armaan Kohli is responsible for me being a star. He featured on the Deewana poster with late Divya Bharti. I still have that poster. Thank you for making me a star.”
Shah Rukh even considers his performance in Deewana loud, vulgar and “awful”. He recalled his performance in Deewana as one which he wouldn’t like to remember. On the work front, Armaan’s career didn’t turn as he would have wanted. Currently, he has been taken by NCB for involvement in a drug peddling case. While Shah Rukh is currently shooting for his upcoming film, Pathan with Deepika Padukone in Spain.
