After a long wait, Sanjay Leela Bhansali announces his upcoming movie Gangubai Kathiawadi, starring by Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn. The film is all set to kick off on 6th Jan, 2022.
Previously, the film was planned to release this 2021, due to the pandemic, the makers postponed it. Bhansali production house officially posted, “The wait to witness her power, strength & resilience ends. Bringing to you a stem-winding story of #GangubaiKathiawadi on 6th January 2022, in cinemas near you.”

It was speculated that the film was heading to OTT release. However, the films’ producer had recently shared a statement that the film will release in theatres. Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Saturday stated cinema halls and drama theatres in the state will be granted to operate from October 22. After this declaration, makers of a slew of big-ticket films have announced release dates.
The crime-drama, modified from one chapter of noted author Hussain Zaidi’s book, “Mafia Queens of Mumbai”, is backed by Bhansali Productions. The period film features Bhatt in the lead role of Gangubai, one of the most powerful, loved and respected feminine from Kamathipura during the 1960s.
However, Alia also uploaded the announcement on her social media accounts. Where she captioned, “Bringing to you a part of my heart & soul, #GangubaiKathiawadi releasing in cinemas near you on 6th January, 2022,”. Gangubai Kathiawadi also stars Seema Pahwa and has cameo appearances by Ajay Devgn and Huma Qureshi.

Previously, when Alia had wrapped up shooting for the film, she shared her working experience with Sanjay Leela Bhansali. “It had been a dream all her life and it has also been a gigantic life changing experience”she wrote along with a string of pictures from the film’s set.
