Saif Ali Khan stabbed: Arrested accused’s 1st confession statement out

The Mumbai police has detained a suspect in the Saif Ali Khan stabbing case from Thane, this morning. The police revealed that the arrested accused is a waiter at a restaurant and has confessed to committing the crime. The latest report now reveals his first statement while the suspect arrested from Durg has been released.

One of the police officials, who was among the personnels who searched the intruder shared with The Indian Express that the accused has allegedly admitted to committing the crime, stating, “Ha maine hi kiya (Yes, I did it).”

Later, on Sunday morning, the police claimed that the primary evidence states that the attacker, Vijay Das, is a Bangladeshi national. It has been also revealed that the attacked used multiple identities, including Bijoy Das, Vijay Das, Mohammed Ilyas, and BJ. However, the accused has been identified as Mohammad Shariful Islam Shahzad, 30, who changed his name to Vijay Das post entering India, to hide his origins.

The report suggested that Shahzad allegedly changed his locations multiple times, avoided getting captured by CCTV cameras, and hid in the Dadar and Worli areas. He was eventually caught from Thane’s Ghodbunder area while he was hiding in dense mangroves nearly 70 hours post the attack.

It has also been reported that he was being interrogated in Khar police station, and is likely to be produced in Bandra metropolitan court on Sunday afternoon.
