Legendary Tabla maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain passed at due to heart-related issues at the age of 73, in San Francisco, on Sunday. The Padma Vibhushan awardee was hospitalized two weeks ago, and was later shifted to ICU as his health worsened.
Following the news of his sad demise, several Bollywood stars including Akshay Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan took to social media handles to pay tribute to the legend.
Bollywood star Akshay Kumar shared photo of Zakir on his Insta Story and wrote, “Very pained to know about the sad demise of Ustad Zakir Hussain Saab. He was truly a treasure for our country’s musical heritage. Om Shanti.”
Kareena Kapoor Khan also took to her Instagram to share a photo, which featured the actor and her father, Randhir Kapoor, meeting the Zakir saab. Along with the photo, she wrote, “Maestro Forever”
Filmmaker Hansal Mehta took to his X handle, formerly known as Twitter, and posted, “The man who made the tabla sexy, who brought an accompanying instrument to the forefront is gone. Deepest condolences to his family, fans and students around the globe.”
