An emotional outburst among fans, celebrities, and social media users has been sparked by a deepfake video featuring actress Rashmika Mandanna. The popular video brought attention to the dark potential of deepfake technology and raised worries about its potential to exploit and defame people, particularly women. It was later found that the video was a digitally edited product created using artificial intelligence. A formal complaint has been lodged against the individuals responsible for creating this artificial intelligence film featuring Rashmika Mandanna.
According to recent reports, Delhi Police detained four people on Wednesday who may have been responsible for sharing the video. The search for the perpetrators and mastermind of this awful crime is still ongoing, according to ANI’s report in Hindustan Times, which cited police sources.
Meanwhile, the case’s investigation is becoming more complex, which emphasises the urgent need for better protection against manipulation and abuse online.
Rashmika’s colleagues in the industry have stood behind her through this turmoil. Amitabh Bachchan, the seasoned actor, spearheaded the movement, highlighting the critical requirement for laws and rules on artificial intelligence. Several other celebrities, like as Mrunal Thakur, Naga Chaitanya, Sai Dharam Tej, and Chinmayi Sripaada, also expressed their support and disapproval of the actress.
Rashmika posted an Instagram story saying, “I feel really hurt to share this and have to talk about the deepfake video of me being spread online. Something like this is honestly, extremely scary not only for me, but also for each one of us who today is vulnerable to so much harm because of how technology is being misused. Today, as a woman and as an actor, I am thankful for my family, friends, and well wishers who are my protection and support system. But if this happened to me when I was in school or college, I genuinely can’t imagine how could I ever tackle this. We need to address this as a community and with urgency before more of us are affected by such identity theft.”
