We have seen a lot of times that CBFC do not agree with film-makers or creators freedom of expression and there is always a tiff that ensues on opinions of these two individuals. Recently, the chairperson of Central Board of Film Certification Prasoon Joshi, expressed his disappointment in one of the scenes from the recently released web series named Rasbhari. He took to his Twitter handle to disgrace the scene and called the makers for showcasing ‘irresponsible’ content. He also stated that the audience and creators should assess the difference between freedom of expression and freedom of exploitation.
His tweet was in reference to a scene in the web show Rasbhari, where a small girl dances in front of some drunk men. According to Prasoon Joshi the scene was distasteful and he tweeted, “Saddened by Web series #Rasbhari’s irresponsible content portraying a little girl child dancing provocatively in front of men drinking. Creators & audience need to seriously rethink freedom of expression or freedom of exploitation? Let’s spare children in the desperate need for entertainment.”

After this, Swara Bhasker, who plays a lead in the same series, penned a clarification to CBFC chief. She went on to clarify that Joshi must have misinterpreted the whole scene and said that the intention behind the scene was just to show that the little girl is unaware of the sick society who has the tendency of sexualising her. The little girl is just performing, unaware of anything.
She tweeted, “With all due respect sir, maybe you are misunderstanding the scene. The scene is exactly the opposite of what you have described. The girl is dancing at her own will, the father feels ashamed looking at her dancing. The dance is not provocative. The child is just dancing, she does not know that the society will sexualise her too – this is what the scene shows. #Rasbhari.”
#Rashbhari https://t.co/xUAmRBHHjJ
