Rajkummar Rao is soaking in the success of his latest release, Stree 2, which has opened up with a whopping Rs. 76 crore on Thursday. The actor, who hails from a modest background, recently opened up about his struggles and revealed that he had to go through some tough times when he first moved to Mumbai. He recalled having on Rs. 18 in his bank account and he wondered where he would get his next meal from.

In an interaction with Sushant Sinha for his YouTube channel, Rajkummar shared that he moved to Mumbai in 2008 but did not get his first break till 2010 with Love Sex Aur Dhokha. “There were times there was no money. I remember I had Rs. 18 in my bank account and my friend had Rs. 21 in his bank account and we were thinking how do we eat our next meal? Of course, FTII has a huge community so you call someone and ask them if you can have food at their house. Can we come? And they say yes,” he stated.

The actor also revealed that he was paid Rs. 11,000 for his first movie, before which he had given 100s of auditions.
