Raj Kundra’s arrest on Monday was followed by the unearthing of several scams related to pornography. According to the recent reports by Mid-day, a wanted accused revealed that Raj Kundra had bribed Rs. 25 lakh to a few of the Crime Branch officers in Mumbai to avoid being arrested.
Reports said that the revelation was made by Arvind Srivastava (also known as Yash Thakur) who was the kingpin of a porn racket. In March, he complained against Raj Kundra of bribing, at the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB). ACB officials said that they forwarded the case to the Mumbai police chief’s office in April.
A senior-level ACB officer told Mid-day, “The ACB investigates only if there is demand for money and it can lay a trap. Since, in this case, the money had already exchanged hands, as alleged, the complaint was forwarded to the concerned department (Mumbai police) to initiate an action.”
The complainant was Fliz Movies [previously known as Nuefliks], a US-based firm. The email of the complaint contained screenshots of the accused bribe chats via Whatsapp but Raj Kundra’s name wasn’t mentioned in those messages.
Milind Bharambe, the joint commissioner of police (crime), told mid-day, “After Raj Kundra’s name surfaced in the case, the Crime Branch investigated further and gathered strong evidence. Only then he was arrested and named in the charge sheet.”
When asked about the status of the complaint about officers taking a bribe from Raj Kundra, Mumbai Commissioner of Police Hemant Nagrale didn’t give an appropriate answer. “I don’t like questions and answers sessions. Your choice. You stop or I block,” he responded to Mid-day reporter in a text message.
Businessman Raj Kundra has been accused of alleged involvement in a pornography-related case. He had sought anticipatory bail in the case. Raj has been named as the ‘key conspirator’ in the case.
