In the golden era of Hindi Cinema, the relation between audience and star was on another level. The dressing sense and hairstyle of favourite actors were copied by their fans. So, it became a sensation in the entire nation. One such actress who triggered the wave with her style was Sadhana Shivdasani or simply known as Sadhana. Apart from her impeccable acting, she was known for her ‘Sadhana Cut’, in which the forehead is covered with hair.

But she was not alone, among the leading ladies of the time were Saira Banu, Asha Parekh and herself. But fans always presume that being three super successful actresses there must be intense rivalry between them. But contrary to the assumption the actresses were a group of besties. In an interview with iDiva in 2012, Sadhana said, “There were three of us, Saira Banu, Asha Parekh and me. If the producers wanted someone pretty and decorative they took Saira. If they wanted a dancer they’d take Asha, if they wanted histrionics they’d sign me. So there was no rivalry. Asha and I kept in touch. We’d wish each other on our birthdays. But today Waheeda (Rehman), Asha, Nanda, Helen and I meet regularly over lunches. When five ladies meet we always have something to talk about,”

Sadhana began her Bollywood career with the 1960 film, Love in Shimla alongside Joy Mukherjee. The movie proved to be a hit at the box office making Sadhana a superstar. Since then her famous ‘Sadhana Cut’ was spread like wildfire to the extent that even today’s actresses cannot match her stardom.
