Even if you didn’t extend an offer to Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s marriage nearly 40 years ago, one may still enjoy a piece of cake that was given at the event. According to the New York Post, a 28-ounce piece of the cake presented at the Prince and Princess of Wales’ wedding will be auctioned off on August 11th.

According to the article, the slice will cost around 500 pounds. The slice was from the colossal wedding cake served for Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s marriage on July 29, 1981, at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London. According to the source, the slice was part of an icing cake with a white fondant basis and a sugary imitation of the royal emblem in gold, crimson, blue, and silver as ornamentation.

Whereas the cake will be sold off, Chris Albury of Dominic Winter Auction house in the United Kingdom told the Huffington Post that no one should consume it. According to Albury, the cake’s condition is “unbelievably good,” as he states.”it appears to be in exactly the same good condition as when originally sold.”

According to the New York Post, the much-discussed cake was created over 14 weeks by David Avery, head baker of the Royal Navy’s cooking school in Kent.

Another prized possession of Prince Charles and Princess Diana was reportedly rumoured to be sold at auction. The 1981 Ford Escort Ghia Saloon car was Diana’s engagement gift, given to her by Prince Charles in May 1981.
