OJ Simpson, the former NFL football player, who was acquitted of his wife’s murder in 1995, has passed away at the age of 76.

The former athlete was reportedly battling prostate cancer. Earlier in February, he had shut reports of being in a hospice.

He was regarded as one of the greatest running backs of all time after spending a decade in NFL playing for the San Francisco 49ers and Buffalo Bills. Post his football career, Simpson moved into acting, and appeared in several movies and TV shows.

However,  in 1994, he was accused of brutally murdering his former wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman after their bodies were found, outside her Los Angeles home, stabbed to death.
