As part of this holy month, Muslims around the world are fasting during Ramadan (Ramzan). Many celebrities can be seen enthusiastically engaging in Ramadan customs, but a rediscovered video of Saif Ali Khan has sparked criticism on social media.
Instagram users are sharing an old clip from an episode of Shah Rukh Khan’s quiz show “Kya Aap Paanchvi Paas Se Tez Hain,” which included Kareena Kapoor Khan and Saif Ali Khan as guests in 2008. In one scene, Shah Rukh asked the couple a question about culture, saying, “True or false? Eid ul-Fitr marks the beginning of Ramadan, the Muslim holy month of fasting.”
Instead of the expected quick correction, Saif Ali Khan’s response has drawn criticism. He inaccurately stated, “Ramzan is a period of fasting of 40 days. And at the end of that fast, we have a feast.”
Usually lasting 29 or 30 days, Ramadan ends on Eid ul-Fitr rather than beginning. Social media users pointed out Saif’s mistake without delay; many of them expressed dissatisfaction and sadness.
Shah Rukh Khan received criticism for failing to clear up Saif’s misunderstanding during the show. Some remarks emphasised the idea that neither famous person appeared to be well-versed in their respective religions.
“40 days man just confirmed that he never fasted a day in his life,” a social media user stated.
Another user wrote, “Shahrukh didn’t even correct him tells that none of them know an inch about their religion.”. One more user wrote, “I cant belive he named his kid ibrahim named all muslim names a 40 year old dont know how many days is in ramdan man living in diverse country and being muslim him self still he dont know this basic stuff.”
The incident has brought up the subject of public personalities’ obligations to authentically reflect religious traditions, especially when doing so on public platforms.
Professionally, Saif Ali Khan’s next film appearance will be in the Tollywood film Devara: Part 1, which features Janhvi Kapoor and Jr. NTR in the key roles.
