Shantirani Devi, the mother of veteran actor-turned-politician Mithun Chakraborty, died on Thursday (July 6) in Mumbai. She had been suffering from geriatric difficulties for quite some time, according to many media sources.
However, the precise cause of her death is unknown.
Trinamool Congress spokesperson Kunal Ghosh announced Shantirani Devi’s death via Twitter. Mithun’s son Namashi confirmed the news to a news source as well. “The information is correct. “Grandma is no longer with us,” he said.
Kunal Ghosh wrote on Twitter, “Heartfelt condolences to Mithun Chakraborty for the loss of his mother. May Mithunda and her family bear this deep grief.”

Basantakumar Chakraborty, Mithun Chakraborty’s father, died in 2020 at the age of 95 from kidney failure.
Meanwhile, Mithun Chakraborty is currently in the midst of filming Dance Bangla Dance. The reality programme, now in its 12th season, has been a big success.
