Mithun Chakraborty, a veteran Bollywood actor and politician, was allegedly hospitalised in Kolkata after complaining of chest trouble on Saturday, February 10.

According to media sources, he was admitted to Apollo Hospital. He felt uneasy, and he was immediately rushed to a private hospital. The Disco Dancer actor is presently in therapy.

However, the actor’s family has not responded to news of his hospitalisation. The hospital has not yet published a statement.

The Government of India recognised the three-time National Film Award winner as the recipient of the Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian accolade, in January 2024.

Reacting to being conferred with the honour, Mithun said in a video, “I am proud; I am happy to have received this award. I would like to thank everyone. I have never asked for anything for myself from anyone. I am experiencing the feeling of receiving something without asking today. It’s a different feeling altogether. It’s a great feeling.”

Meanwhile, Mithun Chakraborty most recently appeared as a judge on the dance reality show Dance Bangla Dance, with Mouni Roy, Subhashree Ganguly, Srabanti Chatterjee, and Puja Banerjee.

He became well-known in the 1980s and 1990s for his dynamic performances in action, drama, and dance films. He is well recognised for his signature dance technique, earning the nickname Disco Dancer for his appearance in the 1982 film of the same name.

The actor also dabbled in politics, briefly sitting as a Member of Parliament. He joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in March 2021, ahead of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly election.
