Following on from Stree, Roohi, and Bhediya, Munjya is the fourth film in Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock supernatural franchise. Coming from a relatively unknown director, Arun Vijay and Priya Bhavani Shankar, the horror comedy has grossed over Rs 110 crore worldwide released in India on June 7 and has come as a surprise to the trade analysts and public. The hero of the film Abhay Verma, now talks of nothing else but stardom. Abhay started his career as a junior artist in Hrithik Roshan’s Super 30 released in the year 2018 belongs to Panipat, Haryana.
Referring to the same account, he said to the Free Press Journal- “I was a junior artist in Super 30 and when I used to get 800 rupees per day, I used to learn so many things just by looking around. I used to get inspire by seeing those 200 people throughout the day. I don’t know how to put this in the most modest way, but I decided I would not do this for long. I am meant for bigger things solely for the sake of cinema.”
Abhay then took up a minor acting profile in 2019 with the web series Little Things. He grabbed the attention of the audiences when he portrayed a terrorist in the second season of the web series The Family Man which stars Manoj Bajpayee in 2021. In 2020, he was narrated two movies, one was Angrezi Medium with Irrfan Khan, which he rejected. Confiding that he still regrets the decision, he said this to Hindustan Times- “I got an offer to work in Angrezi Medium, but somehow it didn’t materialise. I regret it a lot as it was Irrfan (Khan, actor) sir’s last film, and if I could have gotten a chance to just stand next to him even in one frame, it would have been my biggest award. The role I was offered was a bit small, and I had received another film in a leading role with better screen space, but eventually that film never happened.”
Before Munjya, the talented Abhay made his film debut in the 2023 drama movie Safed starring in the role of a Transgender. He was also seen in the said period in AE Watan Mere Watan, a patriotic drama in which he features as the love interest of Sara Ali Khan. Despite the fact that both the film were not well received by the critics, his acting was well appreciated.
