Manoj Muntashir is one of the most respected lyricists in Bollywood for writing some of the most loved songs such as Teri Mitti of Kesari, Lut Gaye and recently Bhuj: The Pride of India. But this time he has made headlines for some controversy which his recently uploaded video on Twitter stirred.
In the video, Manoj Muntashir expresses his views on Mughals by referring to them as ‘dacoits’ and invaders who massacred innocent people. He talks about our history being distorted and how names of streets were given to Muhal rulers. At the end of the video, he urged people to choose their idols and role models by rising above caste barriers.
His views left celebs and the public divided on Twitter, some came in support of the video while some celebs like Richa Chaddha and Masaan director, Neeraj Ghaywan named him as ‘bigot’. The caption of the video was, “आप किसके वंशज हैं ? (Whose descendant are you?) Choose Your Legacy And Your Heros! Releasing today at 5 PM on YouTube/Manoj Muntashir”

Responding to his views Richa Chaddha called tweeted, “Cringe. Bad poetry, unwatchable. Should drop the pen name too. Why profit off of something you so hate.” While Sacred Games Director Neeraj Ghaywan tweeted, “Bigotry laced with casteism!” But Manoj was not left alone but gained support from Tashkent Files director, Vivek Agnihotri. Vivek wrote, “Manoj Muntashir has always been expressing his perspective fearlessly in his poetry and public discourse. If you are ignorant doesn’t mean he has changed suddenly. “
