Munawar Iqbal Faruqui is an Indian stand-up comedian, writer, and rapper. He was born on 28th January 1992 in Junagadh near Gujrat. But due to the Gujrat riots in the year 2002, his family had to move to Dongri, in Mumbai.
He worked as a graphic designer till his early twenties, then with the coming up of OTT platforms the comedian got to know about comedy and began working to become a comic.
The comedian got a lot of media attention when during his all-India tour he was arrested while performing a stand-up show at Munro Café in Indore. The show was interrupted by Eklavya Singh Gaur who is the son of BJP MLA Malini Gaur and a member of the Hind Rakshak Sangathan. He was accused of making malicious jokes about Hindu deities and the Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
He was arrested and charged under Section 295-A. Section-298, Section-269, Section-188 and Section-34 of the Indian penal code. The arrest was made on the accusation by Eklavya Gaur, where the politician said he hear4d Faruqui rehashing jokes that he was going to use in his set.
His arrest was heavily criticized as the comedian’s freedom of speech was not respected. After being in jail he was granted bail by the supreme court of India. After his release, he came out with a song “Jawab” in which he rapped about what he went through in a satire and then commented on having hate comments and people asking him the same questions again and again.
Now the comedian has joined Kangana Raunat’s show Lock Upp, fans are swooning overseeing him in the house and getting to know him a little better.
