Actor Vijay Deverakonda, who has been marketing his new film Liger across several locations way ahead of its pan-India release, recently commented about the mass boycott trend that has overtaken Bollywood, trying to address the continuing cancel mindset after blockbusters like Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha.
When openly questioned about the boycott calls, the young actor clearly told India Today, ‘I just truly believe on a film set, there are many other significant roles, there are 200-300 actors working on a film and all of us have staff members, so a film brings gainful employment to many people apparently and is a source of living for many more.’
Further, he said ‘When Aamir Khan sir makes a Laal Singh Chaddha, it is his name that stars in the film, but there are 2000-3000 families that are being provided for. When you decide to boycott a film, you are not only affecting Aamir Khan, you are affecting thousands of families who lose work and livelihoods. Aamir Sir is someone who pulls the crowd to the theatres. I am not sure why this boycott call is happening, but for whatever misunderstanding, this is happening, please realize you are not affecting Aamir Khan alone but the economy. It is a much bigger picture.’
Laal Singh Chaddha is the Hindi adaptation of Tom Hanks’ Forrest Gump. It also stars Kareena Kapoor, Mona Singh, and Naga Chaitanya in addition to Aamir. Meanwhile, Vijay is waiting for the release of his most awaited film, Liger, in which he co-stars with Ananya Panday. The film is set to be released in theatres on August 26.
