Kriti Sanon’s upcoming film, Mimi, directed by Laxman Utekar release date might get pushed. The filmmakers are yet to shoot some part of the film.

Laxman Utekar, Cinematographer-turned-director, said, “We have close to five days’ shoot left, including the filming of a song and some scenes. But we don’t plan to resume shooting anytime soon. The number of COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra is increasing with every passing day. Unless that comes under control, I don’t want to call my team on the set,” Utekar told Mid-day.

The film is inspired by Samruddhi Porey-directed National Award-winning movie Mala Aai Vhaaychya. The film features Kriti Sanon in the lead. The film will give the audience complete clarity on surrogacy and issues revolving around the practice. Filmmakers consider the bond portrayed between the two mothers, the soul of the film.

“We have one introductory song left to be shot with Kriti. We have actors from the UK as part of the song and we won’t be able to shoot the song till the time the international flights are inactive,” Utekar added.

The director is looking at the scale of the song, adding that it is not possible to film an at-home version. He further adds that they have shot almost the entire film with the actors from the UK and only one song is left. The UK based actors are there in the whole film. The filmmakers are still trying to figure out an alternative.

The filmmakers are concerned about the safety of the crew and have decided to wait on the situation. Director said that the song, that is yet to be shot, is big with several dancers. They are waiting for the lockdown to be lifted, so that they can shoot the last song while following all the preventive measures. They won’t compromise on the quality of the remaining work, Utekar assured.

Discussing the primary plan the director have said, “We finished shooting on March 5 and were supposed to start editing from March 10 or 15. We edited for a few days and then this lockdown was announced.”

Earlier in an interview with PTI, while answering about the new trend of release on OTT platform, Utekar said that the team is not planning on digital release of the movie as of yet, because the film is not ready. The upcoming film also features actors Manoj Pahwa, Supriya Pathak, and Sai Tamhankar.
