Kirti Kulhari first stepped into limelight with her role in Pink, which also starred Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu. However, despite of delivering a strong performance in the film, the actress felt that she was sidelined during the promotions of the film and the experience was quite underwhelming for her. She also shared that this episode also strained her relationship with Taapse, who was promoted as the face of the film.
In a conversation with Fever FM, Kirti recalled how hierarchy amongst the actors affected her. “When Pink happened, for me, there was never a thought, ‘Who is big or small’ in terms of their status in the industry. I was like it is a story of three girls. That’s how I saw it. I came from a space where I believed ‘We are all actors. We are all together’. But Pink made me feel a lot of ‘big star-small star’ treatment. The people around you make you feel that way,” she stated.
The actress said that she realised it only after watching the trailer of the movie, and had a “meltdown” over it. Kirti added that even during the promotions of the film, “PR machinery happened for Taapsee… [and] eventually, it became her film and she became the Pink girl.”
The Mission Mangal actress also added that while she was nominated for several supporting actress awards, she never went for those because she never saw herself as the supporting actor here.
