The director of ‘Laapataa Ladies’, Kiran Rao, was in the Supreme Court of India on Friday to witness the screening of her film. When meeting with reporters before the screening, she said, she felt greatly honored, and that it is very special for her that the Supreme Court decided to show her film as part of the celebrations for the 75th year of the existence of the Supreme Court of India.
“It fills my heart with immense pride to see ‘Laapataa Ladies’ making history by being screened at the Supreme Court of India. I am deeply grateful to the honourable Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud for this rare honour,” she said.
The Bollywood director whole-heartedly thanked the audience and was happy saying that from the starting point, they wanted people to feel for Phool and Jaya’s story but the amount of love it received from the viewership was simply overwhelming, crossing all expectations.
Aamir Khan was also present in the court and was greeted by the newly appointed Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud saying he did not wish for a stampede in the court but they were glad to welcome the actor for screening of the film.
The viewing of the film was conducted among the judges of the Supreme Court, their partners, as well as members of the registry. The movie ‘Laapataa Ladies,’ caste on the basis of ‘Gender,’ was screened at the auditorium of the administrative building of the top court.
The movie, with Ravi Kishan, Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ratna, and Sparsh Shrivastav in lead characters, had opened at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in September 2023. The film was given a standing ovation when it was presented at the festival.
