‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’ by Karan Johar has grown to be a cult classic over the years, and admirers still think fondly of it today. Bollywood owes some of its most enduring characters to this movie, including Kajol’s lively and humorous Anjali, Kareena Kapoor Khan’s unforgettable Poo, and Amitabh Bachchan’s commanding Yash Raichand.
It may surprise you to know that Kajol wasn’t KJo’s first pick for ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham,’ though.
The head of Dharma mentioned in an interview from many years ago that he had another actress in mind to star alongside Shah Rukh Khan but that she couldn’t because Kajol wanted to make the movie.
In a conversation with Komal Nahta, Karan mentioned that he was certain Kajol would not want to do the movie ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’ because she was getting married and wanted to savour the joy of that union and concentrate on her family. As a result, he selected Aishwarya Rai Bachchan to play Anjali in K3G.
However, fate had other intentions, and when he ran into Kajol at one of their meetings, he introduced the movie and the role to her, thinking that she would reject it and they would “shed some tears.” He continued by saying that because of his previous collaboration with Kajol on the hit movie ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai,’ he was already feeling bad about it.
“But I don’t know what changed, Kajol actually wanted to do the film. So, I did not go to meet Aishwarya. But Aishwarya was my choice and after that, the series of ‘missing’ started,” KJo said in the interview.
We can fairly conclude that Kajol nailed the role of Anjali and that fans cannot picture anyone else in her place in the movie more than 20 years after the film’s premiere.
Meanwhile, KJo is prepared to take the helm of his first family-friendly film in seven long years, “Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahaani.”
His two closest friends, Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh, are the leading actors in the movie, and ‘Gully Boy’ has already proven their chemistry to be strong and well-liked by the general public. However, they will appear in the upcoming movie, which is billed as the archetypal Dharma entertainer, in a completely new form.
In addition to Alia and Ranveer, ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahaani’ also has prominent performances by Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan, and Shabana Azmi.
