Filmmaker Karan Johar has approached the Delhi High Court seeking protection of his personality rights, requesting a restraint on individuals and entities from illegally selling merchandise in his name, PTI reported.
The move comes months after Johar secured a significant victory in the Bombay High Court over the unauthorized use of his name in a film title. On May 7, the Bombay HC upheld a ban on the film Shaadi Ke Director Karan Aur Johar, observing that the title misused the director’s name, potentially harming his reputation and unfairly leveraging his fame.
That decision backed an earlier order dated March 7, 2025, which had halted the film’s release. Johar had argued that he had no association with the project and never permitted the makers to use his name.
With his latest plea, Johar is expanding his legal efforts to safeguard his brand and identity in public and commercial domains.
