Kanika Kapoor appears to be reliving her life after marrying businessman Gautam Hathiramani on May 20 in London, as per Indian custom. She shared photos of her court wedding with Gautam on social media yesterday. Kanika got married for the second time. She was previously married to London-based Raj Chandok, from whom she separated in 2012.

While she has given marriage a second opportunity, Kanika claims that the concept of marriage is engrained in her and that one incident cannot destroy it.  She tells BT, “I am someone who hails from Lucknow. I have been brought up in a very big joint family. I grew around my great grandparents, grandparents, my uncles and aunts, and even my parents, who have lived a happy married life throughout. I have always believed in the institution of marriage and I understand that sometimes you can be in a marriage with a partner who doesn’t understand you and vice versa. And it is not anybody’s fault. I think it is very important to be graceful and move on.”

Kanika claims that she and her ex-husband have a harmonious relationship. She goes on to say, “My ex-partner and I have continued to have a very graceful relationship. He wishes me well and likewise. We will always be there for each other. I think that is how one needs to live and lead life without any hatred and negativity.”

Kanika, who married at the age of 18, now advises parents to wait until their daughters are financially independent before marrying them.  “I got married earlier at a very young age and today I understand this institution much better. I would urge Indian families to make sure that every girl is well educated and is standing on her own feet before being married off. Because the moment you are dependent on anybody, you will always be living with expectations and that is when you fall. If the other person is not able to lead up to your expectations, you are unhappy. I will make sure my daughters grow up into independent girls who are polite, humble, grounded, and don’t wait for someone to come and pay their bills.” She said.
