Veteran lyricist Yogesh Gaur, popularly known as Yogesh in the industry, took the heavenly abode on 29th May,’20. He was 77.

The lyricist had some evergreen songs from the 80s on his credit. Rajesh Khanna starrer Anand’s song, ‘Zindagi Kaisi Hai Paheli’, was penned by the prolific songwriter. He worked in the industry with some prominent personalities including filmmaker Hrishikesh Mukherjee, who kickstarted his career.

Mukherjee heard the song ‘Kahin Door Jab Din Dhal Jaye’, which was initially written for LB Lakshman and immediately decided to keep his song, which defined the super hit movie ‘Anand’. The song, ‘Kayi Baar Yun Bhi Dekha Hai’ from the movie Rajnigandha, was sung by Mukesh, went on to bag the National Award for the best singer.

There are many memorable songs penned by the veteran lyricist, which are still fresh in our memories. Songs like, ‘Naa Bole Tum Na Maine Kuch Kaha’ from the film Baaton Baaton Mein that starred Amol Palekar and Tina Mumin in the lead roles. A song high on emotions, ‘Rimjhim Gire Saawan’ still feels like a fresh melody, and some songs like, ‘Naa Jaane Kyun Hota Ha Yeh Zindegi Ke Saath’ from Choti Si Baat, entered our soul and won our hearts.

The nightingale of India, Lata Mangeshkar paid tribute to the late lyricist on Twitter. She wrote, “Mujhe abhi pata chala ki dil ko chunewale geet likhnewale kavi Yogesh ji ka aaj swargwas hua. Ye sunke mujhe bahut dukh hua.Yogesh ji ke likhe kai geet maine gaaye. Yogesh ji bahut shaant aur madhur swabhav ke insan the. Main unko vinamra shraddhanjali arpan karti hun. (I just got to know about the death of Yogesh Ji who wrote many heartwarming songs. I have sung many songs written by him. He was a very calm and composed man. I pay my respects to him).”
