Aamir Khan and Javed Akhtar recently shared the stage at the launch of a film festival by PVR INOX, to honor the actor on his 60th birthday for his contribution to the Indian cinema, Aamir Khan: Cinema Ka Jadugar.
During their conversation, Javed shared a throwback anecdote over how his son, Farhan Akhtar, managed to get Aamir on board for Dil Chahta Hai. The veteran lyricist recalled that Aamir had instructed his manager that he won’t be hearing any new scripts. However, Farhan approached him on one his sets, while he was shooting for the film, and presented his script for Dil Chahta Hai. Despite of recognizing that he is Javed’s son, Aamir did not allow him to read the script.
Meanwhile, Aamir had expected a call from the veteran lyricist himself, putting in a word for his son. However, when he did not receive any call for about ten days, the superstar was convinced that Farhan is not interested in taking favors from his father, who in turn has good relations with the actor, which impressed him.
This motivated Dangal star to consider Dil Chahta Hai script, and he was immediately convinced to do it. Recounting the whole incident, Javedji jokingly shared, “If I had mistakenly called him, it would have ruined his [Farhan’s] career.”
