Today is the birthday of Suresh Wadkar, a singer who ruled the hearts of music lovers with his melodious voice. He was born on August 7, 1955, in Kolhapur, Maharashtra. He was passionate about singing since his boyhood. His father named him Suresh so that he could see his son becoming a great singer. Suresh kept trying and finally he fulfilled his father’s dream.
Early days
He started taking music lessons at the age of just 10. He has gone to films of many languages not only in Hindi but also in Marathi. Along with this, he has also given his voice to many hymns. Ravindra Jain sang the first film song ‘Vrishti pade takur tukur’ in ‘Rajshree Production’ movie ‘Paheli’ and Jaidev offered him a chance to sing ‘Sene Mein Jalan’ from the movie ‘Gaman’, after which everyone began to see him as a talented singer.

Laxmikant Pyarelal gave Suresh a chance to sing the song ‘Chal Chameli Bagh Mein’ with Lata ji in the 1981 film ‘Krodhi’. He sang beautiful superhit songs like ‘Megha Re Megha Re’ from the movie ‘Pyasa Sawan’ with Lata Ji. In this, he sang melodious songs like ‘Meri Kismat Mein Tu Nahi Saheb’, ‘Main Hoon Prem Rogi’. After this, he became so famous that now he was recognized from house to house.
Success
Gulzar and Latha were very much influenced by Suresh. After a long time, he sang songs like ‘Chhod Aaye Hum’ and ‘Chappa Chappa Charkha Chale’ from her in his film ‘Maachis’. Suresh sang some very unique songs in the films ‘Satya’ and ‘Omkara’ with Vishal Bhardwaj. Apart from Hindi and Marathi songs, Suresh has also sung some songs in Bhojpuri and Konkani languages. He sang many devotional songs in different languages.
Suresh has his music school in Mumbai and New York, where he teaches music to music learners. He has added a new chapter in the world of music. He has opened the first online music school called ‘Suresh Wadkar Ajivasan Music Academy’, through which he gives his musical knowledge and experience to new music aspiring students.

Awards
In 2007, the Government of Maharashtra honored him with the ‘Maharashtra Pride Award’ and in the year 2011 he received the ‘National Award’ for Best Singer for the Marathi film ‘E M Sindhutai Sapkal’. She was also honored with the prestigious ‘Lata Mangeshkar Award’ in Madhya Pradesh. Suresh Wadekar was also awarded ‘Padma Shri’ in the year 2020.
